Lee Roy Selmon's life story blends family football scholarships and community service. Selmon is the youngest of children from Lucious Selmon and Jessie Semon. They raised him on their farm in Eufala. Another reason for his football career was that his father was the only of three brothers to play with Oklahoma. All three were All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey & Lee Roy started for one season in 1973. Lee Roy was named the best offensive lineman in the United States by Outland and Lombardi Awards. In three years, Oklahoma was 32-1-1 with Roy serving as their starting line-up. They also won the national title twice. He received a third scholarship in 1975 and designated an National Football Foundation Student-Athlete. Selmon received his bachelor's master's degree in educational studies. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer time per week throughout his time in college. Following graduation Lee Roy moved to Tampa and spent the next nine years playing with Tampa's Buccaneers. There were three times he was selected All-Pro. He began his business career. The first job he had was an Account Relations Manager at First Florida Bank, Tampa. He has worked in the past for Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. No wonder that in 1982 the Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy as one of America's 10 outstanding young men. Lee Roy stood 6-2 in the height department and weighed 256 lbs as a college player he was captain of the team in 1975. In 1993, he became the assistant director of the University of South Florida. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame through the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame of 1994 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 awarded the Distinguished American Award to his parents Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon is the Oklahoma governor, who presented this award.
