Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speechwriter. She founded Feminist Frequency, a site that features videos and comments analyzing the portrayals of females in pop media. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as blogger. She is the creator and director of executive for Feminist Frequency A scholarly, non-profit website which explores representations of women within popular stories of culture. As well as working to expose the issues surrounding the targeted and sexist attacks on women, others of minority groups in the online world, she is determined to break down stereotypes that are in the popular culture. Sarkeesian, who has a Master's in the field of Social and Political thought from York University, is a sought after public speakers. She has delivered speeches at TEDxWomen's XOXO Festival and the United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. From an early age, Sarkeesian was fascinated with gender issues and feminist thinking. While still at school in 2009 she started her Feminist Frequency website. The determined young woman was slammed online for launching a website featuring a series about gender and videogames. The attack wasn't enough to halt her. In fact, it increased her importance to be a feminist as well as media critique. In recognition of the many accomplishments she's made to feministism, she's awarded numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winning media critic and the creator of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit organization which studies the portrayals of women in popular media stories.
